In all the years I've known Mitch, he more than anyone else I know has an uncanny ability for running into really interesting situations/people. Whether it's running into a Japanese expatriot living in a Japanese-style home and garden complete with blooming hydrangea's in the middle of rural Ireland, or the Communist national convention just happened to be held in the same building he was going to school in, or he just happened to become the English tutor for former Prime Minister Nakasone, etc. I could go on and on, but I probably don't know even a tenth of all the stories he has. I don't know how he does it, maybe there's some karmic force of the universe that attracts him to interesting situations or something.
