遅ればせながら、今このニュースを読んだ。
姜尚中教授に石原知事反発 「怪しげな外国人」
なんてとんでもないことを言うんだ。身の毛がよだつ。なんでこんな人が首都の知事などやっているんだ。日本という国が全然分からない。
何の案かというと、旅行用ガイドブックの案である。随分前からソウルのガイドブックを探していて、ソウル市内の本屋で日本語のものや英語のものを見比べている。あまり気に入ったのがなくて買い渋っていたが、マックユーザーとしては韓国のウェブサイトがうまく見れないことも多いので、地図や博物館等の情報がウェブで確認できない。結局日本から遊びにきた友達に最もベーシックなもの（といえばあれ）を買ってきてもらった。
一般のガイドブックの何が不満かと言うと、まず最近のは「韓流」の影響が強く、ドラマのロケ地などの紹介が主であること、そうでないものも高級レストランの紹介が本の半分以上を占めていて全く使えないこと、その上地域や観光名所の解説がひっじょーに薄っぺらいということ。
特に歴史的な名所と言われるところの解説はどれを読んでもあまりぱっとしない。ガイドブックもそろそろ「歴史的」や「伝統的」といった言葉に批判的な解説を加えてもいいと思う。歴史学や社会学では常識だが、いわゆる国家の「伝統」は近代になって作り直されたものがほとんどである。日本で言えば、たとえば「初詣」とか、「和」の国とか（詳しくはこの本参照のこと）。もちろん他の国も同じ様な歴史／伝統の「国家化」をしてきたわけで、国立博物館に行くとその「現在の国家観」を反映した歴史の語り方になっている。
ソウル市外の水原にある民俗村もそうだ。そこにある昔の村の様子は朝鮮時代の末期のものであって、「かなり伝統的」というわけでもないし、農民の家に立派な家具が置いてあったり、シルクの韓服で食事をしているわけないんである。別に観光の一部として楽しむ分には問題ないが、作った側の意図や理想的歴史像を見破れれば、もっと面白いはずだ。
というわけで、私がここで提案する「近代史の先生と歩く旅」には、本国の人や政府が語りたい歴史と、その近代性を暴く解説とを共に紹介させたい。各冊を「近代史の先生」（大学教授等）に担当してもらい、次の内容を含める：
１．地域の解説（市内をさらに地区に分けてそれぞれの特徴、雰囲気、最近の政治経済社会の情報やゴシップなど）
２．一般の観光情報（主な見どころ、アクセス、料金、時間など）
３．いわゆる「歴史」（政府や主催者側が外国人に聞かせたい歴史）
４．近代史の先生が実際に行った時の感想
５．３．で扱う「歴史」の近代性についての記事の紹介
４．の部分と５．の文献選びで近代史の先生が力を発揮する訳だが、歴史の創生自体が政治的であるから、その解体も政治的になるだろう。やってくれる人がいればいいけど。４．の部分には別に小難しいことを書かなくても、その時に出会った現地の人の話を含めたり、何気ないちょっとしたことでもいい。５．は担当の先生自身が書いてもいいし、関連の論文の要約や、新聞記事に少し解説を加える程度でも十分面白いだろう。
つまり、ガイドブックにも視点を！ナレーティブを！と主張したい訳だが、こんなガイドブックを作ってくれたら絶対買う、というのは私だけだろうか。
