I have just created this blog with a new domain name, and transferred my old blog entries here. Some of you might have been forwarded to this blog from my old SecurityGirl.net address. I have not decided what I will do with the other pages on my old website, but as I grow old (meaning getting close to the job market), it seems it is more appropriate to differentiate my ‘professional’ information and personal gibberish.
The title, “The Prison Notebooks,” might sound depressing to some people. It came from the writings of my favorite thinker, Antonio Gramsci. I was afraid it might be a disgrace to his name if were to use this domain name for my personal blog. Since the sound of “The Prison Notebooks” inspires me and awakens my critical mind, however, I decided to shamelessly borrow this title in order to encourage myself in my academic pursuits by reflecting on Gramsci’s life everytime I open this blog. Besides, we are all trapped in small enclosures of a kind, from which we can only hope to see a narrow ray of knowledge.
I finished my comprehensive exam and all of my papers at GW. I still need to do some paperwork and administrative errands, but my semester and my life in DC are almost over. Summer = Blogging time. I will travel to Taiwan, Japan and Korea this summer.
